Rapide S is the most powerful four-door Aston Martin ever produced. We combined breakthrough technology with our advanced engineering to create a new generation of engine - the 6.0 litre AM29 V12. The most advanced engine in our history. Technology from the race track delivers unprecedented performance figures; a top speed of 203 mph, a 0-60 mph time of just 4.2 secs and 552 bhp of power, a staggering 18% increase on the first generation Rapide.

Brains Controlling Brawn

The latest Bosch Engine Management system is introduced to the 2015 Rapide S. Advanced electronics communicate thousands of times a second with the AM29 engine and Touchtronic III transmission to precisely control engine performance and improve fuel effiiciency.

Utilising two control units, each monitoring six engine cylinders, this meticulous data and performance management technology brings a new level of engineering excellence to Rapide S.

Touchtronic III - Our Most Advanced Transmission

Rapide S now includes the most advanced gearbox ever fitted to an Aston Martin. Our engineers worked meticulously with technical partner ZF to deliver the world’s first transaxle eight-speed transmission – Aston Martin Touchtronic III.

Touchtronic III delivers exceptional driver control and phenomenal driver performance. All new features enhance a breathtaking Rapide S driving experience:

Enhanced Torque Conversion


A new lightweight torque converter uses twin dampers and generates a lower level of inertia meaning an improved throttle response for the driver. Touchtronic III can also fully close to a 1:1 slip ratio for a more direct and responsive driving experience. Driveline efficiency is increased from reduced transmission loss and enables more performance to be transferred directly to the driven wheels.

Cutting-Edge Shift Technology

Touchtronic III’s eight gears are derived from two brakes, three multi-plate wet clutches and four gear sets – each comprising four planetary gears. A minimum of three clutches are always engaged ensuring less drag torque, improving efficiency with less redundant inertia.

Each of the eight gear ratios is achieved using different combinations of open brakes and clutches all designed specifically by our engineers to maximise performance and acceleration.

Unprecedented Transmission Control


Working seamlessly with the new Bosch engine management system the Transmission Control Unit contains powerful electronics which control the hydraulic oil flow around Touchtronic III - opening and closing clutches and brakes. This breakthrough technology allows the gearbox to shift in just 130 milliseconds by re-engaging clutches almost instantaneously after shifting.

The TCU also calculates the ideal gearshift ‘map’ from data monitored thousands of times a second from across the car including road conditions, car positioning, speed, g-force and even driving style.

All-New Torque Tube

 

Lighter but more effective – our engineers worked to produce an all-new torque tube to transfer power from the AM29 engine to the Touchtronic III gearbox.

A unique new outer case design produced a 2kg weight saving whilst reducing driveline noise and vibration felt by passengers.

 

Powerful Technology & Outright Power

 

Drive energy produced by the AM29 engine is multiplied by the new Touchtronic III gearbox – but you’ll only feel it when it hits the road. We wanted a higher top speed and faster acceleration, we achieved both with a final drive ratio of 2.73:1.

This longer ratio is perfectly matched to the wider spread of ratios produced by the eight-speed gearbox, the result – more power and more usable power.

Rapide S features an all new design and an all new AM29 engine. That's not all, the 2015 Rapide S has seen us develop our world-renonwed VH architecture even further.

With more power, more performance, more dynamic – unbelievably this is the stiffest Rapide S we’ve ever made. Our industry-leading VH architecture is now 3% stiffer, improving the ability of Rapide S to absorb road changes and maximising the feelings of driver control and involvement.

Constructed from lightweight aluminium and bonded with sophisticated epoxy resin, Rapide S utilises the latest iteration of Aston Martin's unique engineering philosophy. Adapted and improved for the original Rapide, Rapide S sees a further evolution. By combining many of the technical innovations developed in our Ultimate GT, Vanquish, we've delivered a sports car architecture of unrivalled stability and rigidity.


Recalibrated Dynamic
Stability Control


Specifically designed to work in harmony with Touchtronic III, the 2015 Rapide S includes completely recalibrated Dynamic Stability Control technology. Either in ‘Normal’ or ‘Track’ mode this advanced system detects irregular wheel spin, under steer and over steer and will intervene by reducing engine torque or applying braking technology.

Also making its Rapide S debut is the link of ‘Track’ mode to the anti-lock braking system – allowing skilled drivers to maintain a greater level of car handling with the comfort of ABS still being present when required.

Technologically Advanced

Industry-leading technology means a comprehensive range of Rapide S safety solutions. Seat belt engineering includes dual pre-tensioning and load limiting technology for all four passengers, in addition to eight airbags. A structure of advanced bonded aluminium effectively manages crash loads, as does a new front bumper beams and fixation design meeting EU1 Lower Leg Compliance legislation.


Engineered to Excel & Adapt

The 2015 Rapide S includes our hi-tech Gen4 Adaptive Damping. Allowing the driver to choose between three modes; ‘Normal’ ‘Sport’ and ‘Track’, each delivering a unique driving experience. Controlled at the push of a real glass button, feedback is instant and the changes immediate, meaning Rapide S can move effortlessly from luxurious GT to assertive sporting performance.

Specifically designed for the increased power of AM29, the 2015 Rapide S also includes new spring aids and 20% stiffer rear suspension bushes, improving steering response and ride comfort.

The 2015 Rapide S is the most agile four-door car we’ve ever made - specifically designed to cope with the power and performance upgrades of engine and transmission. The engine placement is lowered by 19 mm compared to the first-generation Rapaide, as is the under body structure and cross brace assembly. Both factors in creating a centre of gravity closer to the road, improving handling. With a kerb weight of just 1990kg and a weight distribution of 48:52, Rapide S handles the increased power of the new AM29 engine with world-class dynamics.


Higher Performance & Better Braking


A revised 2015 Rapide S braking system increases front brake disc size from 390mm to 400mm and increases front disc plates to 11.15mm. Combined with a retuned 'Brake Booster' delivering a stronger 'brake bite' as you commence braking our comprehensive brake improvements reduce fade and enhance pedal feel.

Four adults travelling in comfort want four distinct experiences. The sound of the AM29 engine is balanced precisely with the exquisite quality of the Bang & Olufsen Beosound system to ensure the driver gets a blend of exterior and interior sound. We don’t forget those in the rear. Optional rear seat entertainment includes a six-disc DVD player. Designed by our sound engineers to balance the DVD audio with the inherent sound of Rapide S.
