Round 2 - Oulton Park

Qualifying Report

Vantage racing’s Tom Black in the number 24 machine was unfortunately unable to make the start of qualifying because of an incident in testing the day before which left the car to badly damaged to be repaired for the race day. The 40-minute session started with a slightly greasy track and with all cars on slick tyres, it would prove to be a very interesting session. On lap 3 Mark Walker in the number 47 Stratton Motorsport car ran wide on the exit of Druids corner, which unsettled the car and sent it into the barriers on the right hand side of the circuit. Mark was pretty shaken but unhurt after the big impact, unfortunately the car would not be able to be repaired in time for the race. The session was red flagged to allow the marshal’s time to repair the barriers and as always they did a fantastic job in sorting everything out in as short a time as possible. The session was restarted with 30 minutes left to run and as the tyres came up to temperature and driver confidence increased the times began to fall. Olivier Bouche in the Stratton Motorsport with Immun`age and Osato number 22 car set some fantastic lap times and took the provisional pole which he would hold onto until the end of the session. In second place was Paul Whight driving the number 88 Stratton motorsport car and third was Mike Brown driving the MB Racing number 7 machine. With five minutes to go Tiffany Chittenden driving the number 91 Stratton Motorsport car took third place moving Mike Brown to fourth, in fifth place was the number 56 Ultimate Speed car of Tim Eakin. Olivier Bouche and Pierre Mantello took another fantastic pole position, making it two out of two for the 2012 season in the Aston Martin GT4 Challenge of Great Britain.



Race Report Part 1

Olivier Bouche started the race in the Stratton Motorsport with Immun`age and Osato number 22 car, leading the pack round on the green flag lap, the lights went out and Olivier led the field into Old Hall. Second was Paul Whight in the Stratton Motorsport number 88 car with Tiffany Chittenden in the Stratton Motorsport number 91 machine third the MB Racing number 7 entry of Mike Brown was fourth. Desmond Smail in the Mardi Gras number 5 car was having a great battle managing to move himself up from seventh to fourth but on lap 4 had a spin on the exit of Kinckerbrook, undoing all of his hard work and dropping him back to seventh again.

By lap 5 Olivier Bouche had already created a very impressive 10-second lead over the rest of the pack and set about trying to extend his lead even further by setting the fastest lap of the race. On lap 9 Paul Whight in car 88 pitted from second place for an unscheduled stop but the Stratton Motorsport team managed to fix the issue and Paul got underway again.

Tiffany Chittenden in car number 91 was the first to pit for round one of the two mandatory pit stops, she would hand over to Chris Kemp for the next phase of the race. Olivier Bouche in car 22 now had a 60 second lead over the second place car, Desmond Smail in car 5 who had once again managed to get back up through the field was now lying third. Kenneth Greenberg in the Stratton Motorsport number 62 entry was the next to pit for tyres but no driver change. Olivier Bouche in car 22 pitted from the lead on lap 21 and handed over the driving duties to Pierre Mantello. Mike Brown was the next to pit in the number 7 MB racing machine handing over to Paul Cripps.

After the first round of stops had been completed it was Pierre Mantello in the Stratton Motorsport with Immun`age and Osato number 22 car leading from Chris Kemp in the Stratton Motorsport number 91 car and third was Kenneth Greenberg in the Stratton Motorsport number 62 car.



Race Report Part 2

The second round of pit stops started on lap 35 with Kenneth Greenberg pitting to hand over to Andreas Kramer in car 62, they were soon followed by Paul Cripps in car 7 handing over to Dave West and Chris Kemp in car 91 handing back over to Tiffany Chittenden. Sid Sadique in the number 88 Stratton Motorsport car pitted on lap 39 to hand back over to Paul Whight and on the very next lap the hard charging Desmond Smail pitted in the Mardi Gras number 5 car and handed over to Julian Reddyhough. On Lap 45 the leader Pierre Mantello in car 22 pitted to hand back over to Olivier Bouche for the final stint of the race. Richard Taffinder in the Ultimate Speed number 56 machine who was now lying second then pitted to hand over to Tim Eakin.

After the second round of mandatory pit stops had all been completed it was still Olivier Bouche in car 22 leading from Tiffany Chittenden in car 91 and Dave West in car 7 who was now third. Olivier had managed to lap the complete field, so now set about nursing the car to victory. The battle for third ensued with Paul Whight in car 88 catching Dave West in car 7, Paul was pushing really hard and managed to get the gap down to just under 20 seconds before spinning at Cascades, taking the pressure of the Dave in the number 7 machine.

The checkered flag came out on lap 62 for Pierre Mantello and Olivier Bouche, in the Stratton Motorsport with Immun`age and Osato number 22 car, to claim another amazing victory, they had led every lap of the race. Second was the number 91 Stratton Motorsport entry of Chris Kemp and Tiffany Chittenden and third completing the podium positions, with a very professional drive, were the MB racing crew of Mike Brown, Paul Cripps and Dave West in car number 7, this was their first podium in the GT4 Challenge of Great Britain and was also Paul Cripps`s first ever time to Oulton Park, what a fantastic achievement!

The series now moves on to Brands Hatch on the 5 June for the next chapter of the Aston Martin GT4 Challenge of Great Britain.
