Non-isolated steering column

The new Vantage Roadster experience comes to life through a non-isolated steering column. Delivering an unfiltered line between the tarmac, the tyres, the chassis and the steering wheel. STIFFENED FOR A MORE PRECISE DRIVE

This new tactile awareness is further amplified by targeted bracing, undertrays and anti-roll technology. The aluminium Roll-Over and Protection System (ROPS) has been carefully optimised to minimise weight yet maximise strength. The structure is formed using a process called ‘Castrusion’ – named for the way it combines optimal elements from both casting and extrusion to create a strong, light and simple to package system. Aston Martin’s bespoke all-aluminium 4.0 litre V8 twin-turbo engine sees the largest single surge in performance in the 75-year bloodline of Vantage. Power and torque rise by an unprecedented 30% and 15% respectively, compared to our previous model. A total of 665PS and a staggering 800Nm of torque running through an eight-speed paddle-shift torque-converter transmission to an electronically controlled limited slip differential – all powered through the rear wheels.

Or drivers can specify Carbon Ceramic Brakes with vast discs – measuring 410mm at the front end and 360mm at the rear – clamped by six piston monoblock calipers. These reduce unsprung mass by 27kg to minimise weight, maximise grip, and rein in all 202mph and 800Nm of unadulterated thrill. Allowing Vantage Roadster to shed speed even more rapidly than it gains – and do so repeatedly. Increasing braking efficiency and reducing brake fade at temperatures up to 800 degrees courtesy of grooved, drilled faces providing superior heat rejection. The Vantage Roadster features 21-inch, hand-forged alloy wheels, with a structure designed using simulation tools to remove every gram of excess mass without compromising strength or aesthetics. The new Stability Control System underwrites the sense of driving composure through a state-of-the-art 6D Inertial Measurement Unit. Driver-centred slip and traction control

Working in harmony with the Electronic Stability Control system, Vantage Roadster is graced with the latest evolution of Electronic Slip Control (ESC) and Adjustable Traction Control (ATC) systems. For the driver, it is an innate sense of balance behind the wheel. Torque is constantly monitored and managed to optimise wheel slip by actively predicting the exact level of grip available. The ATC can be set manually on one of nine different levels, so you can precisely control the amount of traction you want from the system or even turn it off completely. Launch control

Vantage Roadster’s new Launch Control System harmonises the engine, transmission, and stability control to provide as much torque as conditions allow. A combination of E-Differential, ESP slip control, and engine torque management ensure a vice-like hold on the tarmac, and thanks to the innovative Advanced Traction Control system, the driver can provide even more precise control over the amount of slip they desire through launch. The Roadster continues Aston Martin’s tradition of open-top motoring that dates back 75 years to the launch of the Vantage drophead coupe in 1950. The Z-fold roof system swiftly transforms the new Vantage model into the top-down drivers’ dream. Lightweight and compact, the mechanism instantly folds to a mere 210mm stack height, giving a beautifully smooth, sleek rear profile, while maximising luggage capacity.

 

The convertible has an ingenious lightweight roof mechanism and supporting structural enhancements. The substantial weight saving over a traditional K-fold roof is further facilitated by removing a tonneau cover. The Z-fold roof canopy is acoustically enhanced and incorporates eight different layers of insulation materials for the height of cabin comfort. And the essence of interior calm.

The Roadster offers the fastest operating fully automatic roof on the market, taking just 6.8 seconds to open or close completely. World class performance as silent as it is seamless. The Z-fold is operational up to a speed of 31mph, allowing you to raise the roof at the touch of a button. A short cut to open-air calm, the refined mechanism can also be operated via the remote key within a 2-metre radius of the car.

The wide aperture of the signature Aston Martin grille embodies Aston Martin’s philosophy of combining beauty with function. The vaned contoured grille has a 38% increase in surface area than its predecessor, dramatically improving airflow to the powerful engine by offering 29% increase in mass airflow for additional cooling. Scalpel-sharp vents reduce drag and command enhanced cooling airflow onto the front wheel arches. A final touch comes in the form of a new optimised front splitter. Tuned to enhance airflow into larger front apertures without compromising aero balance and downforce to offer the Roadster enhanced stability at high speeds.

A wider body

This beautiful convertible multiplies and intensifies its road presence 30mm wider for added stability. Sharp. Rigid. Laterally stiffened and braced with 29% more strength under the pressure of a corner. The Vantage Coupe and Roadster were developed simultaneously enabling the convertible model to retain the outrageous dynamic capabilities and agile sporting character of Vantage with no compromise with the removal of the hard roof.

A FORCEFUL STANCE

Finished with a broad rear end and widened stance, Roadster is visibly more formidable from nose to tail. The roof stows seamlessly behind the seats without need for a bulky, heavy tonneau cover, while the boot lid deck slopes gently downwards to meet the dramatic upkick of a distinctive rear spoiler. To reduce lift, wheel-arch vents bleed-off air and the rear diffuser keeps the car grounded by managing and optimising airflow to create low pressure under the car. Signing off emphatically with quad-exhaust tailpipes that are as memorable for their visual power as for their stainless-steel roar. A last impression as dramatic as its first.
